Identity Baselining

By , About.com Guide

Definition:

It's a good idea to know who you are before you become a victim of identity theft. An identity baseline is a profile of you as defined by your accounts. Nobody likes to be thought of as a number, but that's exactly what this is.

When a company offers an identity baseline program, it is important to know what information they're looking at.

Baselining should be offered with some kind of resolution program, or a restoration program. To be truly effective it should have monitoring as well.
