Definition:

Credit reporting agencies, also called credit bureaus, are organizations that collect and aggregate credit and personal information about consumers. Each consumer's information is tracked by their Social Security Number.

Some of the information that is collected includes credit transactions, credit limits, available credit, debt, addresses, employers, and payment histories. This information is collect in a credit report about each consumer.

There are three major credit reporting agencies in the United States:
