I couldn't help but laugh when I read about the latest Twitter fiasco that has made the news - mostly because it made the courts. This time, police are going after a high-school student for poking fun at his schools Director.
Well, maybe it wasn't such a good idea to create a bogus account in someone else's name, but what was intended as nothing more than senior hyjinx was turned into a felony arrest for identity theft - for a Twitter account. The prankster finds himself facing charges that were intended to be used against credit card fraudsters and true identity thieves - maybe the cops didn't have much of a sense of humor, hmmm?
Personally, I think this will be a great chance for the law to show that it is willing to make some judgments to protect consumers who use social media like Facebook and Twitter, but the trend looks to be going the other direction.
