Check Your Statements

Saturday November 29, 2008

After the madness of Black Friday shopping, and with the coming insanity of Cyber Monday, this is just a gentle reminder to check your bank and credit card statements. I'm spending the holidays with family, but I just learned that my own parents were hit with credit card fraud this week. Thankfully, an observant credit card company representative had enough foresight to realize that my Mom doesn't need 20 pairs of the same kind of size 8 shoe.

The caution that my Mom got from the rep? Never hold your credit card in hand while you're waiting in line to purchase something. Industrious thieves will snap a picture of it with their camera phone and you'll never know the number has been stolen. Go figure.

Shop safely. Check your statements often. And don't forget to check your credit report, too.
