Weekend Scam Recap

Monday June 16, 2008

Scams are present every day, but for some reason the new ones seem to turn up on weekend. The most recent scam takes advantage of parents who receive child support in the form of the EPPIcard System. These are debit cards used to distribute court managed child support payments.

Parents who use these cards have reported receiving emails or text messages claiming there is a problem with the cards and instructing users to visit a web site to provide necessary information to re-activate the card. Of course, the web sites are spoofed sites that criminals are using to collect information that allows them to gain access to the funds available on those cards. If you're an EPPIcard user, beware any communication that pushes you to provide personal information.
